Success Story #3 – 6.5 Grendel 12in – BRN 120gr TTSX

Remarks:

I developed this load here: 6.5 Grendel – 12in – BRN 120gr TTSX – Vihtavuori N-133 for my 12″ 6.5 Grendel. (11/11/22) – This doe was heavilly quartered away @ 50 yards and I hit her right at the back of her rib cage. She dropped immediately and stopped kicking quickly. The bullet exited out of the opposite side in front of her opposite shoulder at the base of her neck. The bullet caught both lungs and the heart as it passed through. Very little damage was done to the meat so I was able to harvest almost all of it. Unfortuneately, I didn’t have a scale handy to weigh her, but I would estimate that she was around 120lbs.

  • Summary:

This is my primary deer rifle but this is the 1st deer that I’ve taken with this load. This bullet is super impressive on ballistics gel if you watch some YouTube videos on it. For deer, it was supper effective and I will continue to use it in this rifle. The Hornady 123gr SST load that I developed for my 18″ Grendel just doesn’t group as well as this. After seeing what the bullet did to the opposite shoulder, I would prefer a traditional double lung/heart shot versus a high-shoulder shot to prevent damage to the meat.
